Commr is run by Jesse Williams (ABN 66 828 603 516) in Adelaide, South Australia. This covers the mobile app, the business dashboard, and the waitlist on commr.app.
Who this is for
- Customers — people using the Commr app to join shops and redeem offers.
- Businesses — owners and staff using the web dashboard.
- Anyone who leaves an email on the waitlist.
What we collect
In short: contact details (name, email, phone), account login details, business profile stuff, records of who's verified where and which offers were redeemed, and — only if you turn them on — a one-off location check or a push-notification token. We don't collect health data, race, religion, politics, sexuality, criminal history, or biometrics.
If you're a customer
- Name, email, and phone, from when you register
- Your password, stored as a one-way hash — we can't read it back
- Which businesses you've asked to join or been verified with, and when
- Which offers you've redeemed, where, and when
- Location, only if you tap Find Nearby — used once to show nearby shops, not tracked in the background
- A push token, if you turn notifications on — so we can tell you about new partner offers. Not ads from anyone else.
If you're a business
- Business name, category, phone, email, and address (or the area you service, if you don't have a shopfront)
- A rough map pin, from that address, so nearby customers can find you
- Logins for anyone on the dashboard; passwords hashed
- The offers you create, and when they're redeemed
- Who you've partnered with
- If you pay for Commr Pro: Stripe takes the card. We keep their customer and subscription IDs. We don't store card numbers.
Waitlist
Email, and whether you use iPhone, Android, or both — so we can tell you when the app's on your store. That's it.
How we get it, and where it lives
It comes from you: registering, changing Settings, scanning a QR, redeeming an offer, subscribing to Pro, turning on notifications, tapping Find Nearby, or joining the waitlist. We don't buy lists.
Some of it is just what happens as you use Commr — a join request, a partnership, a redemption.
It's stored on our server in Sydney (Vultr). Traffic is HTTPS. Passwords are hashed. Cards stay with Stripe.
What we use it for
- Running your account
- Letting shops verify customers and honour offers
- Partnerships between businesses
- Showing a verified customer the offers from that shop's partners
- Emails that are part of using Commr: codes, password resets, a shop getting a partner or customer request, trial reminders, waitlist, staff invites
- Push notifications you opted into
- Find Nearby
- Commr Pro billing
- Keeping the thing running — security, fixing bugs, planning, and our own records
- Whatever Australian law requires
Because Commr is a partnership network, other people on it can see some of this:
- A shop you're verified with can see your name, email, phone, and redemptions at that shop
- Their partners can see that you're a customer of that shop, so they can extend you an offer. They don't get your personal details unless you actually redeem with them. A shop also never sees its own offers bounced back to its own customers.
- We don't sell your information. We don't give it to advertisers.
Tools we use overseas
A few companies help run Commr. Sending them what they need to do that job counts as disclosing information overseas. We only send what that job requires.
- United States — Resend sends emails. Stripe handles Pro payments and holds the card. Google gets whatever you type into the address box (Places), and Android push tokens. Apple gets iOS push tokens. Expo delivers the pushes.
- Germany — qrserver.com draws the printable QR. That's usually a join link for the shop, not a customer's email or phone.
- United Kingdom, and wherever OpenStreetMap hosts — Nominatim turns a shop address into a map pin. Only the address goes across.
Our own server stays in Australia.
How long we keep it
Delete your account and you're out immediately — no login, gone from the network. We keep the underlying records by default, because a redemption is also that shop's own record of an offer being used. If you want it fully wiped, email us and we'll do that.
Seeing it or fixing it
You can ask for a copy of what we hold, or ask us to correct it, whenever you like. A lot of it you can already change in the app under Profile, or in the dashboard under Settings. Otherwise email contact.commrapp@gmail.com from the address on the account. We'll get back within 30 days.
If something's wrong
Email contact.commrapp@gmail.com with the subject "Privacy complaint". Say what happened and what you want done. We'll confirm we've got it within 7 days, and write back with an answer within 30 days. If we need longer, we'll say why.
If that's not good enough, or we miss those times, you can take it to the OAIC: oaic.gov.au/privacy/privacy-complaints or 1300 363 992.
Kids
Commr isn't for children. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.
Changes
If this actually changes, we'll update the date at the top.
